After launching its standalone Android Wear app, Strava is finally bringing the love to the Apple Watch with its own native workout app.
Given the strength and popularity of the Strava platform, we’ve been eagerly awaiting an update that lets Apple Watch owners break free from their iPhones for a workout. Now it’s finally arrived, and you can go start using it this very second.

You’ll be able to do all the things you could before, like tracking your pace, distance and heart rate, but with the added advantage of the Series 2’s built-in GPS – meaning you can leave your iPhone at home. Strava promises it will continue the app to make it stronger, too.
It joins a very exclusive club of other Apple Watch apps to make use of the smartwatch’s GPS, which right now includes Runkeeper and of course Nike+ Run Club. Runtastic has promised an update for standalone functionality this year, and we expect others to do the same.
If you’re already a Strava app user, just go and fetch the iOS update, which will automatically upgrade the Apple Watch app. Easy.
