HTC tells us to ‘be edgier,’ new smartphones coming

HTC Desire 10 Pro render 2

IFA 2016 is almost over, and we’ve seen some nifty gadgets ranging from the gorgeous Asus Zenwatch 3 to Acer’s crazy curved screen laptop. And with the upcoming unveiling of the LG V20 and the iPhone 7, HTC doesn’t want us to forget that they will also be announcing something very soon.

HTC is unveiling something new on September 20th, and we have a pretty good idea of what it’s going to be. We saw a glimpse of the device in a previous teaser, and according to Evan Blass, it’s going to be the all new Desire 10. Two variants of it, to be more precise: the Lifestyle and the Pro. Now the Taiwanese company has released yet another teaser, telling us to “be edgier.”

This one is a bit more cryptic; we don’t really see the device itself, but the video simply states “150.” Although we will have to wait till the official unveiling of the Desire 10 family, rumor has it that the Desire 10 Lifestyle will be a stylish but affordable smartphone with a price tag of $150.

The Lifestyle variant is said to be sporting a 5.5-inch display with a resolution of 720 x 1280, which is kind of disappointing for a phone with such a big screen. It will reportedly have a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixel front shooter. It will be available in two configurations: 16GB with 2GB of RAM or 32GB with 3GB of RAM. As is the case with most of HTC phones, the Lifestyle won’t be lacking in the audio department with its Boomsound Hi-Fi Edition stereo speakers.

As for the Pro version, not much is known so far. We’ve seen alleged benchmark results, which show that the Desire 10 Pro will have a 5.1-inch Quad HD display with Snapdragon 820. Though it is entirely possible, it seems a bit odd that the more premium of the two would have a smaller screen.

Judging by some of the leaked photos, the Desire 10 Pro will look very attractive with the gold trims around the device, but HTC’s success will largely depend on pricing at this point. If both the Lifestyle and the Pro offer what HTC usually offers with the right price tags, HTC’s ever-growing irrelevance in the smartphone industry may take a turn for the better.
